Water Treatment Engineering Since 1985

Water, Fully Engineered.

For the past 40 years, Kyungil Water Engineering has designed the value of water.

  1. Seawater intake pump station

Vertical pumps lift seawater from the intake and send it to pretreatment.

  2. Chemical dosing

Doses chemicals such as coagulant, hypochlorite, SBS and antiscalant at controlled rates.

  3. Dual-media filter (DMF)

Two layers of media, anthracite and sand, remove turbidity and suspended solids.

  4. UF membranes

Hollow-fibre membranes with fine pores remove suspended solids, bacteria and colloids.

  5. Cartridge filter

Removes the remaining fine particles just ahead of the high-pressure pump and the RO membranes.

  6. High-pressure pump

Raises the pretreated water above the osmotic pressure of seawater and delivers it to the SWRO.

  7. SWRO

Reverse osmosis membranes pass water and reject salt.

  8. Energy recovery device (ERD)

Transfers the pressure of the concentrate to incoming feed water, reducing the load on the high-pressure pump.

  9. 2nd-pass BWRO

Treats the first-pass SWRO permeate again to lower boron and the remaining salt.

  10. Coagulation & flocculation

Coagulant is mixed rapidly into the raw water, then stirred slowly so fine particles grow into larger flocs.

  11. Dissolved air flotation (DAF)

Fine air bubbles attach to the flocs and lift them to the surface, where they are skimmed off.

  12. CIP skid

Circulates cleaning solution through the RO membranes to remove accumulated fouling.

  13. Product water tank

  14. Control room (PLC · HMI)

From the control room, PLC panels and HMI screens run the pumps and valves automatically and monitor and log operating data.

  15. Sludge dewatering (filter press)

Presses thickened sludge between filter cloths to squeeze out water, leaving a cake for disposal.

  16. MCC

The MCC panel distributes and protects power for each motor, such as pumps and agitators.

  17. Post-treatment dosing

Adds chlorine and pH-adjusting chemicals to bring the product water to supply quality.

  18. EDI (electrodeionization)

Electricity, ion-exchange membranes and resin remove the remaining ions continuously, with no chemical regeneration.

  19. Mixed-bed polisher (MBP)

Cation and anion resins mixed in one vessel remove the last remaining ions.

  20. ACF & water softener

Activated carbon filters (ACF) adsorb residual chlorine and organics, and softeners remove hardness such as calcium and magnesium with ion-exchange resin regenerated by brine.

  21. Clarifier

Settles the flocs in the wastewater; clear water overflows onward and the sludge collected by the scraper is drawn off the bottom.

  22. Pressure filter

Passes the settled water through media beds under pressure to remove the remaining suspended solids.

  23. Sludge thickener

Settles the sludge drawn from the clarifier slowly, removing water and raising its concentration before dewatering.

  24. CTBR auto-backwash strainer

Automatic backwash strainers screen the cooling tower blowdown to protect the UF membranes, flushing collected debris out automatically.

  25. CTBR UF

Hollow-fiber membranes remove suspended solids and colloids from the blowdown before RO.

  26. CTBR RO

Reverse osmosis for cooling tower blowdown recycling (CTBR): it removes salts from the blowdown and returns the water to the cooling tower basin. The concentrate goes to T-N removal.

  27. Total nitrogen (T-N) removal

The RO concentrate passes through an electrolysis reactor and two denitrification towers to reduce total nitrogen (T-N) before discharge. Tower exhaust is treated in a deodorizer.
